Cheap Hand Throttle

It was raining and no fun outside, so one morning I decided to go up into the attic and see if any of my old bikes had a usable shifter for a hand throttle. It turned out my old mountain bike did, so it was off to the bike store to get a control cable and jacket long enough for my needs. I ended up getting a 78" Generic cable and jacket at Bike Line for about $5. Here's a pic of the cable and my shifter:

The shifter didnt fit my tranny shifter very good so i put some electrical tape around it, and bolted it on. I ran the control cable down the shifter, and through a hole in the firewall:

Now all I had to do was attach the cable to my Weber's linkage. It turns out that the stock part of the linkage already had an extra rod sticking out of it that had a hole in it for the cable to attach to. I just had to make a bracket that would position the cable to pull the line down. Here's the bracket i made:

Don't mind the crappy welds. My mig ran out of gas and I used the wrong wire. But it worked for me in this case since these welds are not load bearing, or in plain site.

So, then I just tacked my ghetto bracket to the stock linkage and ran the line. Its held in by a nut and screw. Sorry, but this is the best pic i can get. It's not in an easy spot to see.

And that was that. Works like a charm. Now I can air up my tires much faster, and although not recommended, I have a booty fab cruise control! It will also come in handy on those cold morning where my jeep doesnt want to idle for the first 2 minutes its running..
