transmission

An automatic transmission (sometimes abbreviated AT) is a multi-speed transmission used in motor vehicles that does not require any input from the driver to change forward gears under normal driving conditions. Vehicles with internal combustion engines, unlike electric vehicles, require the engine to operate in a narrow range of rates of rotation, requiring a gearbox, operated manually or automatically, to drive the wheels over a wide range of speeds.
The most common type of automatic transmission is the hydraulic automatic, which uses a planetary (epicyclic) gearset, hydraulic controls, and a torque converter. Other types of automatic transmissions include continuously variable transmissions (CVT), automated manual transmissions (AMT), and dual-clutch transmissions (DCT).
The 1904 Sturtevant "horseless carriage gearbox" is often considered to be the first true automatic transmission. The first mass-produced automatic transmission is the General Motors Hydramatic four-speed hydraulic automatic, which was introduced in 1939.
Automatic transmissions are also found in some heavy commercial vehicles, particularly those which are subject to intense stop/start operation such as buses and waste collection vehicles.

    Build Thread 1972 CJ5 “re”build

I recently bought my first CJ mostly as a deer lease vehicle. I’ve wanted one since I was a kid listening to stories my dad would tell about his (‘74 CJ5 with the 304 V8). I knew it would need work eventually; It is much older than I am after all, but I wasn’t expecting it would be so soon...

Trans Can anyone help me identify my transmission?

Okay, this is what I know. On the transmission right above the oil pan is "K3240107X 6954 7113" there's a few other numbers printed on the transmission itself. I'll post those as well. But I believe this is one of the most relative numbers from what i'm googled. On the main body, there's "80...

Trans Replacing T150 with T18 Trans

From what I've read on the net it looks like a striaghtforward swap. Has anyone done it? What could go wrong at each end? -Input shaft could have different splines... I don't know how the transfer case hooks to the trans so I am only assuming that it's the same for both transmissions...

    Trans 4 speed trans identifying

I have a CJ7. I think I have a T176 trans, given that the stick comes up at an angle and it’s a 4 speed with reverse down on the passenger side. It has a tag on the right side with the numbers 5359390 RHLK3 1142 Is this enough info to determine which trans I have? Thanks
