1963 CJ-5 Dash Removal...Help!

I have the dash unbolted and ready to pull. Now whats the best way to proceed? Any other way to get the choke and throttle knobs off with out destroying them? Any chance you can unplug the wiring harness and remove the dash with the gauges still installed? Any tips or trick of the trade? I want to put the dash back completely stock...Minus the snow plow handle. So I would like to keep as much stuff original or find original replacements...stickers and all!! Anyone have a good place to find replacement dash parts, new or used??

Sorry I can't help you with removal, but I think I read on another thread you have to cut the knobs off...but wait for someone more experienced then I before you take a hatchet to it. For parts, see here.

Keep in mind there are two bolts in the dash in each corner left & right above the foot well that need to come out..............just leave the dash fall towards you and support it via some wire off the windshield...............you do not have to cut the choke or throttle cables off.............they unscrew from the back........so do all the gauges & light switch...........there is enough room to get everything undone..............there is not enough wiring under there that you would be confused about on the return ...pretty simple.

If your pulling the motor just mark those ends...............take a bunch of pictures of areas like the ignition switch ETC.

What I would do is get yourself a bunch of plastic resealable bags and keep all the screws , nuts, bolts you take off in different bags that you should mark with a sharpie for location...............not a lot of stuff there but it makes your life much easier not to have to figure it out later.

Thanks...that's a pic before I started, but I did happen on those hidden bolts! I glanced at the wires, and was hoping to see a quick connecter back there. I did try to unscrew the choke and throttle knobs and they would just turn. I was really wanting to save & reuse those knobs. The speedo looks to have the most wires, and I just don't want to jack nothing up.

Good info of the baggies. I have been taking plenty of pics of the whole process.

What I have always done is get a roll of tape and as I unhook each plug or wire I will wright what it went to on a strip of tape and put it on the wire.
