2 - 1974 CJ5's. Both with 304 v8's. One lifted with 37" tires, the other is stock.
I recently bought 2 CJ5 's. The bodies appear to have some differences that have me curious. I noticed the stamped jeep logo's are in different places. One is a few inches higher. Does this mean the bodies cannot both be 74's? I also heard that all v8 models in 1974 were renegades. Is that true?

Check the VIN tag code. I suspect they are a year apart, but could be licenced in the same year. . .

The yellow one has the 'jeep' stamping in the correct place for a '74 or earlier CJ5 .They lowered the 'jeep' stamping at some point in '75.I always thought that all '75s had it in the lowered spot but I just looked at a factory promo photo for '75 that has it in the same spot as '74[perhaps pre-production?],while every other '75 photo shows it in the lower position like your reddish one.....at any rate your reddish one is either a '75 or has had someone graft some '75 body panels on it,[perhaps for rust repair?].

This may be interesting for you. Today i am preparing to replace the rocker panel area on my 73 CJ5 with a panel I bought. Due to rot and my inexpierence in welding I will be chopping the new panel above the JEEP stamp, this will be welded into place below the original JEEP stamp. So, i will have a JEEP JEEP on the drivers side!! That should start some conversations and questions. This Jeep restoration is long and a learning journey. JEEP OUT.

you should do that on both sides, just to really mess with people!
