1977 CJ7 Auto transmission rolls when in Park

Hi everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me out here.

I've got a 1977 CJ7 , AMC 304 V8 with an automatic Transmission . When I put it in Park on a surface with any incline it starts to roll downslope and I hear a faint clicking noise. It's like the Transmission isn't catching or something.

Any ideas how I can fix this on the cheap? The parking brake doesn't work either right now so every time I park on an incline I have to jump out and put a wedge under the tire to keep it from rolling. I'm in TN...any idea how how hard it is to find a level parking surface??

Make sure the shift linkage is going all the way into park at the Transmission .
If the linkage adjustment is good you probably have a broken park paw in the Transmission .

It was the shift linkage as you both mentioned. We were able to put it back in place and now I'm a parking mo-fo!
