1984 CJ-7. 4 cyl AMC, 5 speed, all else stock. ACME hardtop and doors.
Thanks for reading this.

I wanted to replace stock gas tank, fuel lines and filler hoses with new parts. Ordered them from a couple of different places. Nothing fit.

Is this configuration so unique that parts houses don't have exact replacements, or ... ?

Thanks.

Hope to save you getting blasted right out of the box. If you could post information about your 84 I'm sure that someone will get you pointed in the right direction. It's helpful if we know some things about your jeep. Engine, Transmission , differential, suspension, tires, carb, and so on. That being said, I have been able to find just about anything I need for my 84. We all have our favorites and are loyal to quite a few. Your location may have one that works better for you. Good luck

Those parts seem like they would not be especially unique for the '84. Many years used the same parts in the back. Can you be specific as to what the fitment problems are? Frequently items like hoses need to be cut to fit, for instance radiator hoses and a recently replaced gas tank breather hose (the smaller of the two going to the filler assembly) needed to be cut to length.

Fuel lines I wouldn't order. Most towns have a local shop that can bend up new ones and they will fit. If not local arm twisting gets it done. For instance the power steering pump pressure line on my '75 needed replacing. I took the original part to the shop nd told them the new one need to follow the original very closely. Naturally they ignored me and followed their catalog specs. It wasn't even close to fitting. So, I took it back and told them to do what I asked for the last time, they did and the new line fit just fine and they gained some respect for what I asked for. Now I have a great working relationship with them.

Thanks to Whatroad and Hedgehog for their replies.

My jeep has AMC 4 cyl engine, T-5 Transmission with Dana 300 , Dana 300 Transfer Case , and Dana 30 (front) and 20 (rear) axles. Stock suspension, aftermarket tires.

I'm not able to work on the jeep much because is lives 100 miles away at mountain location. My mechanic was the one who said the parts wouldn't have fit and further he mentioned that the 21 gal poly gas tank had cheap plastic clips holding the sending unit to the tank. I took his word for all of the above.

Parts have been returned and I'll wait until Spring for further.

Off topic, but what is the difference between this website and jeepforum.com?

Thanks.

You have a very common CJ7 setup. The tank would have fit your CJ7 .

Yeah, I agree with that Hedge, the mounting set up for the gas tank send unit sounds interesting. Although I have not heard of anyone having any issues with it. I think maybe the op didn't take the vehicle to a real "Jeep Guy".

Basic answer, jeepforum.com covers anything rolling with a "Jeep" badge. This site pretty much narrows that down to just the CJ5 , 6, 7 & 8 body style Jeeps and their military predecessors.

Not to mention we're a better looking bunch too :chug:

Welcome. The 4 cyl fuel line runs down the passenger side of the frame unlike the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l & AMC 304 . This may help as you order parts. What side of the rear is the fuel fill on? CJ body is on the passenger, YJ on the driver. Could the tub have been replaced? As for the plastic tank. I don't have any experience with the 20/21 gallon. However, I do have a replacement 15gal. that has metal hold-downs for the sending unit. hope this is helpful.

Plastic/poly tank ..... plastic/poly has to come into play somewhere in attaching the sending unit. ..... obvious .... just sayin'
