I am using a 75 Buick 231 in our 59 CJ5 . Just put in new rod and main bearings, timing chain and gears, oil pick up tube, and cleaned out the oil pump. Put everything back together, and no oil up to the rockers. These are not like the Dauntless Buick 225 V6 which is fed through the rail, but rather through the push rods. Primed the pump with a drill and got 45 PSI. Checked the pump and cover gaskets to make sure all ports were open, all is well there. Blew air through the oil channels and oil flowed from the front of the cam, dripped from the crank, and blew back through the oil pick up tube. Even removed the main bearing cap to double check that the new bearings were in correctly. They are. This engine was part of a deal made a few years ago, so I have no idea if this problem existed before we got it. I never ran this engine for more than a few seconds at a time since we got it. The top end has never been opened up other than the rocker covers in order to check oil flow. Glad I did. Any insights are appreciated!:notworthy:
