I'm off from noon till tuesday and am thinking I'm gonna go ahead and do the headers. Anyone else here done this? Is there anything I need to watch out for? Back early in the summer, I pulled the head off our 65chevy truck in one day. Had it off, wire wheeled the valves and back on running in less than half a day.

It really depends on what header(s) you plan on using. Each manufacturer has their little nuances and hic ups. Also not two Jeeps are created equal. Each one has its own quirks and “less than desired locations” for items. Personally…. I would stay away from the Headman full length dual collector version. It’s just not a great fit at all. Motor mounts, throttle linkages, clutch fork, brake proportioning valve all had to be taken into consideration on my 85 CJ7 . And that is just getting the headers on, fitting the exhaust up was a whole other episode. Just my $0.02 worth.

i got a hedman single collector one and the only thing i had to do was grind down acouple of corners on my clifford intake.

Well personally I didnt have problem with the Heddman split header, but then again like you say tony no two jeeps are the same, but for the sound i wouldnt have done it any other way. Just check out the vid below.

bdunnam,
After you got the adjustments squared away, it sounded pretty good. I am just curious how you ran the dual exhaust from the two collectors all the way back.
I ran 2 1/2” from both collectors to a “Y”, and then 2 ½” to a 40 Series Flowmaster.
I noticed on mine, the collectors were at different angles. This posed problems to clear the Transmission and cross member.
I honestly think the single collector version is much more “installer” friendly.

Also a side note: I sent an e-mail to Borla asking for install instructions for their SS header for a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I figured if I’m paying over $400, I’d like to do as much research as possible and it was not on their site. That was about 3 months ago…. And I still have not heard anything from them.

Im gonna go ahead and take the body off. Headers to come later when I pull the engine

Well, cant believe it took me this long to get back to it, but that motor came from a friends jeep and the headers were already on it and the PO before my friend had the collectors cut off it looked like, that or my friend got sawzall happy... so its all just clean welded together, thats probably why I haven't experienced clearance issues.
