Hi all -
Just bought a 79 CJ5 . I am the third owner to it, and am in the process of trying to register it in California (Los Angeles County). Heres my predicament.... One of the previous owners removed ALL the emission parts! Therefore making it impossible for me to smog and register it for road use.

Off the bat I noticed it has no Cats.. Not a big deal, but something that needs to be added. Also there is no smog pump that I can see running off the belt. The headers are long tube Hooker headers, and it has an upgraded 4bbl Holly carb.

What else is required for me to add for this thing to become CA compliant? I cant seem to find any diagrams or links on the web that would aid me in my search to find what else I need.

Thanks,
James

WELCOME :dbanana:

Been play'n the SMOG came with mine in LA County for 31+ years.
Your best bet is to go to a 'Referee Station'. They will give you a print out of everydangthing you'll need and must have. We have to pass a visual and tail pipe(on rollers) along with a gas cap test.
May I ask-Did you buy this Jeep out of state or?
Good place to start on the shopping list of what you will need.

It's quite a long and expensive list of components to put it back to factory specs.
Hope you got a good deal on the Jeep.
So is it a 49 state AMC 304 ?

Look seriously into California compliant fuel injection systems.
