75 cj 5

i have a 1975 CJ5 says the title,the body vin# check out as a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l 3 speed ect... the motor on the other hand seems to be a 1974 AMC 232 i6 ??? from buying parts i figured it to be the 1974 and the previous owner told me it was the AMC 232 i6 ... as i got into it i found out what it was i still havnt been able to figure out the codes/numbers on the motor itself to be sure but the distrubitor is what kinda sent me into finding this out. any explanitions other that an motor swap??? im not sure what Transmission its a 3 speed but it has reverse up and i was told down to the left for 1st / down middle 2nd /down right 3rd gear but if i put it up and to the left its reverse and up and to the right there a forward gear there i havnt been able to run throught the gears dew to lack of space in my yard and the gear seems to be higher that the so explained 1st ???? that has me woundering if its a 4 speed how does the shifting pattern go on the 3 and 4 speeds what Transmission /Transfer Case came with the basic 75cj5...the reason i ask is i want a granny creeper gear and need to know what i got to start :dunno:

i will get that pic to show ya and see whats going on there, i have the code chart that is posted it checks out to be a 1975 CJ5 3750 gvw 3 speed but the last code thats off is an A instead of a E/F i will look at it and post exactly what it reads as for the codes on the block they ment nothing to the charts iv compared them to ????

Look at the middle drivers side of the block - A=AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l E=AMC 232 i6 .
