My 86 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l s runs pretty hot to the point you can barely touch the hood and grille. Is this normal? My temp gauge works but stays low barely even gets into the green. Is this a problem I should be addressing? Thanks for any help! Also, anyone ever use lucas super coolant or royal purple?

Does it over heat? As in water boiling in the radiator or in the motor. .......motors are hot buggers and your hand is terrible at reading temperatures.

Also, it's not overly expensive to change out the meter and the sending unit. I'd start by a simple replacement of the sending unit.

As far as coolant goes, 50% Napa green and 50% distilled water works great and costs less too.

Temp gauges and related sensors do wear out. John Strenks new gauge page should be on every CJers computer to diagnose problems with the instruments.
