AC measurement

Can some one that has a factory AC under dash unit measure its placement? Im looking for passenger side to edge of the unit. A few pics of where you measured from and too would be great also.

Saw a couple during my lifetime! That about covers my experience. Both in Laredo 's, one a CJ5 and the other in my brother's CJ7 that he sold last year (unfortunately). Wish you'd ask a year ago. He coulda stretched a tape on it for ya.

Hate to see you shut down the headlight harness fab. Makes me feel proud to own one of your works of art! I can't thank you enough for the one I got from you. Guess I'll use yours as a blue print if I need another one in the future.

I hear that Daimler Chrysler Fiat put a lot of AC units in their vehicles. Ohhh yeah, yah see what I done there, AC units jeep an I tied in Wrangler and newer jeep like cars from JEEP. Clever beyond compare .... I make myself laugh ........ :down: to me ..... Seriously though, I'm sorry but I can't help, wish I could.

I'm assuming yours is stock? How well does it perform? Did you do any fan motor upgrades?

It is yes, but it's disconnected. The dash portion is all there, the compressor is still there, but the condenser has been removed (but kept) to make way for my Transmission cooler.

I never had any desire for A/C in the Jeep, never even tried to turn it on. I assumed it needed charged and / or some blower or cable was stuck. Same for my heater, completely disconnected.

Yes, I agree. It's crossed my mind as a future upgrade for when I have the top and doors on and the Mrs is riding with me but otherwise, no, I don't have a desire either. Had wondered if it would be strong enough to be of use. Sorry, don't want to derail a thread.

From what I understand they work okay with a hardtop. Take a bit to cool it all down and will never freeze you but it will suffice.

Lot of room in a CJ7 to cool with a hard top, especially with that small of an AC unit. Tinting all that glass would do wonders to help the system cool quicker / better.

Living in the dry SW is very unlike the South Central Texas area. The old quote, "It's not the heat, it's the humidity that kills you!" is very true. Humidity here runs from in the 90% to 50% range everyday. A very hot fire danger humidity is 30% range. It's like you get hit by a solid door when you walk outside in the morning from the nice dry A/C house. So yes, I've looked into the A/C option for my CJ. I've also considered an insulation for the top and the tub floor. If your think of doing this here are some links I've explored:

Not too many CJ AC units in the northeast. However, I did own a Laredo years ago with a working AC. The only time I used it was in August, on the trail, with the top off, and windshield down. The cold blowing air added some degree of comfort on a hot day.
