anyone recommend an air filter to replace the factory stock one. I have the original carter but would like to get rid of the ugly air filter housing. Thanks

You would want one that uses fresh air from the outside of the vehicle into a replaceable air filter in a sealed housing like a K&N. The oem style is pretty close to optimum, and yes they are ugly.
