- 1981 CJ-7, 258 I6, T5 after a year of no reverse with the original SR4, 300 Dana Transfer.
I bought a 81 CJ7 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I6 about a year ago and use it as a daily driver. Have done a tune-up and rebuilt the BBD carb. It runs good, but I have been thinking (yes I know that is dangerous). I am thinking about getting rid of the airpump and as much of the vacuum system as I can. Can't help but think it will help get better mileage. So I want to hear from those that have already done it to know what works, and what does not. I have even wondered about changing carbs to one with less vacuum. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
