Hello

I put a high amp alt on my 78cj7 and my belt is squaling bad.
Would any of you guys know a good adjustable alt bracket?

It was actually a Premier Power Welder addition

Thanks
Chris

Thanks

Hi output alt's have a problem with V belts and in the best possible world a serpentine belt would be the system of choice.

You may try an "AX" belt rather than the "4L" belt that most automobiles use. You will have to go to a bearing supply to get an "AX" the guy at the auto parts counter will just give you a blank look when you ask for one. "A" belts are the same angle and width as 4Ls but they have a deeper profile, the X means segmented so it goes around the small pulley easier.

This is the belt I run, no squealing unless my belt is loose....hint hint.

Chris, my '80 came with a dual pulley. From the attached factory manual, this must have been common. Maybe some junkyard spelunking would get you a double-belt pulley, tightened well and with good belt dressing on it.

I have since this photo added a brace from the lower bracket bolt to an abandoned bolt hole in the head from the now-departed A/C compressor. A/C was sorta not very efficient with all the holes in my CJ7 floor, dash, and the muffler head coming up just behind driver and pax chair. Like to run with doors detached.
