AMC 360 no oil pressure

Ok so I have an 81 CJ7 with a 79 360 in it, the engine ran great but leaked like a sive so I pulled it and put all new gaskets in it and now I have 0 oil pressure, i'm lost to say the least, I just droped the pan and the pick up is there and tight, its not even priming the filter, the only thing that I can think of is that one of the valves in the oil pump is stuck or there is something plugged.
Can someone help me out.
Any ideas?

The oil pump does not have any valves in it. It is a gear-rotor type. It sounds like you lost the prime on the pump. You will have to pull the distributor out and prime with a priming tool, or take the pump apart and pack it with Vaseline. Don't use grease to pack the pump, you can strip the distributor gears. I now that first hand. Vaseline, once primed will melt once engine warms up.

I do have a tool for primeing the engine and spinning the pump and got nothing, there is a pressure relief valve in the pump. I'll try the vasiline trick and see what happens.
I know for a fact that the dizzy is spinning the pump.

You are turning the pump in the right direction ??.. it's easy to spin them backwards by mistake. I've never had a problem getting a pump to prime.

Thanks guys worked like a charm, I have always worked on chevys and never had to do that before, but then again the pump on the amc is alot further away from the pickup, so I can see why its nessary.
