another brake light question..

I've been searching the forums, but can't seem to find anyone with the same issue.

I have an 85 CJ7 , been sitting for a couple years. I'm trying to get her ready for summer and running into a strange brake light issue.

Tail lights work. Turn Signals work. However, no such luck with the brake lights....unless the turn signals are on.

If i have either signal working, and hit the brakes the other brake light works. So that rules out the brake light switch...i'm a bit puzzled where to go next?

replace the fuse and clean the clips it sets in.

That sounds like it would be fun to trace down. Along with what was previously stated, check the plugs to the tailights for corrosion and operation of the hazard lights since they might affect this also. Grounds are always a possible problem with a CJ and they are grounded at the light housing where they are screwed into the body, This can be checked by running a jumper from the battery negative to the light housing.

The problem could be in your turn signal switch.

You might want to change your flashers. I had a brand new electronic flasher go out, and it made the turn signals / brake lights / tail lights do weird things. Swapped out the flasher, and everything went back to normal. I spent several hours tracing wiring, checking grounds, etc. All for naught.
