I used the search and found answers but not specific to my needs.

Question is a GM Turbo 400 the same length as a TF999 -OAL?

Would the TH-350 be better/shorter-OAL?

My son either needs to rebuild the AMC 304 or he can put a Chevy 350 in the '74 CJ5 and install the tranny w/an adapter for a Transfer Case (unless you have an idea of which Transfer Case can go in with what Transmission ).

Thanks,
Jim

A GM Turbo 400 is app 3" longer than a TH350. A GM Turbo 400 would just be too long for a CJ5 . Their are people why put autos in 5's, but you end up with an even shorter rear drive shaft.

Consider a 727. Shorter than a lot of manual setups.
