I have a 74 CJ5 with a T-15 tranny. When I bought the Jeep, it did not have back up lights mounted on it. The previous owner removed the backup lights and covered the holes with diamond plate.

I am semi-restoring the Jeep and want to add the backup lights. I traced wiring from the front, under the hood, by the fire wall and found a spare set of wire that go back to the rear area that are not used. I assume that these are for the backup lights. The wires are green with a white stripe.

On the Transmission , I have three wiring connections. Two go to the same plug on the Transmission and they are green with a white stripe.

I assume that I need to provide power to one of the green wires that goes to the Transmission , and then connect the other wire to the green wires that go to the rear of the vehicle? Does this sound correct? My prints show these wires to be white that is why I am asking.

I do not know what the single third wire is for. I connects to a single point on the Transmission . I am assuming that this third, single wire is a temperature sending unit? Can anyone shed some light on this?

For what it's worth, none of the wires (all three of them) on the Transmission are hooked up. They all come up to the engine compartment and dead end there.

You might get some help from the Hayne's Jeep CJ Repair manual for a wiring schematic, pages 10-16 & 10-17. It seems to be complete.

Just remember to get your 12v supply for backup lights from a "ignition hot" source so the back up lights go off with switch. This is opposite of the brake light power source that would be "12v constant"source.Sounds like you have it figured out already thou. mike
