Im no mechanic but have been able to work my way around my CJ. The latest issue is the battery is draining even when everything is off A day and a half the battery is zapped. Today I checked it with my multi meter and something is draining all 12 volts. I pulled all fuses, one at a time and checked the meter, still full drain. I felt all the relays, none are warm to the touch, brake lights and headlights are fully functional and turning on/off when supposed to. What am I missing? Anybody have a suggestion? I need help please

Did you check volts or amps? You really Need to use the meter in amp mode to find the drain.

i used it in volts. I can check amps though, whats the process for that and what should I be looking for

What if anything, have you done lately to the Jeep? Mods, wiring, replacement parts etc?

And are you sure, once started, you alternator is giving you a good charge?

I only ask the above, because i went through a charging system, problem very recently, that I had originally assumed was a battery drain problem...

A couple members gave me some great info on the ways to check amps vs volts etc.

I actually just replaced the alternator, but thats how i discovered there was a problem. The alternator wasnt charging so I thought oh, easy fix. Replaced it, checked that its charging let it sit for a day and what do you know, the battery is dead.I charged up the battery and let it sit for days to make sure it was still holding a charge by itself. The only thing that I noticed is the emergency brake light in the speedo was glowing dim off and on even though that thing has been broke for years. But the light goes out when the ignition is turned off so I assumed that would not be puling any voltage after the jeep was off. Am i wrong. Is that a possibility even though the light goes off when i turn off the ignition. Other than that I have nothing. Its been desmogged so there is no computer, no clocks, no radios, just the OEM gauges.

Have you had the battery checked?? take it to auto zone and have a load test done on it, it's free.
