Hi Guys,

Im new to the jeep world, ive always wanted to have one, and now i do, 78 CJ7 3 speed, AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l engine, needs a lot of love, hopefully get it ready before summer time, im in OC, so anybody else from the area???

I dont have a top, and wanted to know wich brand would be the best deal, im on a tight budget, im looking to get a softtop or get a bikini top for now, i saw strapless bikini top on ebay brand new for $50.

Thanks in advance

i'm guessing you don't have much cold weather there, so if you don't mind gettin a little wet on the very few days a year it rains in cali. you can get by with a bikini top. $50 is generally what they go for in a best top brand. don't pay that for it if its used on ebay. a complete supertop (later style wrangler top) with 2pc soft doors will run you about $800, a tigertop which is a "factory style" top for a cj will run about the same maybe a little cheaper. there are cheaper brands out there, like rugged ridge, but remember you get what you pay for, especially in tops.

Make sure the strapless top will work on yours. I recall that they may only be for some of the newer models. I've see various things listed on EBay that make fit claims that aren't true. If you don't have a retaining channel on your windshield, you may also need one of those.

Since you are only thinking about a bikini top, you probably won't have many problems....but for what its worth, I really don't like Bestop or any of their prodcuts. They usually look good early on and wear out fast and if you want customer service from them, don't expect it. That is my experience anyway. Good luck and have fun with the 'new' Jeep!

I have to agree that there customer service doesn't exist. That being said I still think they make the best top out there right now.
As gilmore said, I'm not sure a strapless top will work for your year.

We have had GREAT customer service from Bestop

THanks for the feedback guys, im thinkin of a bikini top for now due to my budget, but i really want the full softtop, any website or brand i should look for, ive been researching and i know theres a lot of brands and they all claim there the best (like all companys do)

Morris......i waited for a sale then typed in the promo code from this site.....got bikini, windjammer, and tonneau package for right around $AMC 150 ....

I've been using the strapless bikini on mine for years and I love it. Even in the rain, if I have my hard doors on, it stays pretty dry inside

They can even keep the snow off

I just bought a bikini directly from best top $45. and $10 rebate so cost me $35.

I bought a new Bestop in October.
Have yet to recieve my 50.00 rebate.
Sure is nice to have a new top though.

Just replaced my bestop softtop after 10 years in the 112 degree summer days in AZ. I'd say thats pretty good! It really wasnt to bad either.

Wow, I lived in AZ for 3 years, and just can't imagine driving a jeep with a bikini, your bad <-BAD WORD-> lol, surprised that the top last that long in those crazy summers

Well dont be fooled. I drove my air conditioned truck on those days. but the jeep sat out in the sun. I may be a bad <-BAD WORD-> but I'm not an idiot;)
