Bigger Battery Tray...

I was wondering if anyone has replaced their battery tray with a bigger aftermarket one. As posted before in another thread my battery is toast. Well so is the tray.

I'm looking @ a Deka 9A78DT from Tri State Battery. It's a AGM battery made right here in the states. Not a bad price for an AGM battery either @ $159. The battery will fit on a stock tray but it will be tight and no room for tie downs.

Just wondering what you folks did or are using. I haven't checked the internet yet as I just measured the tray and I have to run off to work. I would like some feed back on aftermarket battery trays and how you folks like them...

You might have to make your own tray. All the after market trays that I have seen fit stock size batteries or are for dual batteries.

I was able to stuff an Optima into my oem battery tray. The front and rear hold downs have to be removed, from there you have to get creative. I used a hold down strap from a Blitz gas can carrier, along with using copper marine type battery terminals. It is pretty much a quick disconnect battery.

That's a pretty nice set up. Where can I get that set up or where to steal it from?

As for the battery, the place I went too sells them but told me just like we've read on the forums. They are just not as good as they used to be. They are made in Mexico and owned by Johnson Controls. They get a massive amount of returns on them. So I've decided to just go with the USA made Deka AGM battery with a 4 year warranty...

If you do any semi-serious off roading, I would think about making a battery tray. I had two pre-fab models come apart over the years on the trail, and speaking from experience, it's no fun at all to see sparks and smoke coming from underneath your hood. I made mine out of a piece of 3/16 plate steel.
