Bikini Top with Doors

I only have a Bikini Top and love it.

Recently ran through the 'know you own a CJ' thread when I (laughed and) realized a lot are doing the same. I don't take it to work if there is a good chance of rain because here in South Texas, probably like in Florida, there's never a gentle rain. Of course I occasionally get caught. Wondering if I had soft doors for those occasions how much it would help keep my left side dry. I read that there is a 3" gap at the top and I know I'd still get wet but wondering how much it helps?

Don't want a soft top.

Also, I'm guessing the two-piece soft doors pack up easy in the back?

Back during my collage days I had a Wrangler(yeh, yeh, bring on the negative comments - I know I'm not a true CJer since I owned a Wrangler ). It had a hard top with hard doors. In June, the hard top would come off and the bikini top would go on. Doors on or off depended on weather and it would stay that way till September. It was my only source of Transmission . and I did not keep it in the garage. It wasn't perfect but I did stay reasonably dry during downpours. I'm not sure about soft door coverage in comparison to hard door. If I didn't have a wife and kids now, I would still travel that way.

Why? I have a wife and three kids and do it. I know I probably count as her 4th . I'm lucky because if it wasn't for her ability to drop them off and pick them up from school, my gig would probably be up. But OT. Glad to hear it helps. It would be more so for the driving/sideways rain.

iwas gonna do the deck/windjammer/bikini combo til i had to put my fun d else where..but if you look at pics the gaps seems to be less if you got the roll bar padding...but cant find a pic with doors on.

I have run my CJ with the bikini and 2 piece soft doors. And yes, there is a gap. Better than nothing but in a rain that is angled you will get wet.

Here on the edge of the Gulf, the only hope to get cool in summer is to get rained on. It's OK; when I'm in the Jeep, getting drenched will probably do us both good.

Was also looking at the safari top that extends back over the rear seats. Saw someone mention that it came down the sides more filling in that gap a little more. I do have the Bestop padding on the roll bar.

How does the safari top extend? Do you have a family rollbar or a cage? Or does the safari angle downward after the rollbar? I would like to have the bars between the rollbar and the windshield to attach the bikini top on the sides. They sometimes get flappy since they are not secured to anything on the sides.

I have an 8 so my rollbar is a wider diameter. Might be the same as a 7 rollbar with padding.

Neuner I was talking with CJ the other day on the phone and brought up your signature. We love it!!!

Now , I just run a traditional bikini top all Summer long. The next free weekend I have I'll remove my hardtop and doors till late September. I kinda like that Safari top you posted though. It looks like it gives somewhat of a seal with the hard doors on. I wonder if it uses the Yj bars from the windshield to the roll bar? Im also wondering how those supports mount and how sturdy the are.

It's been a while since I looked into and considered that top but it did come as a kit with the support bar included (*edit* - I mean the one at the rear that supports over the rear seats). From what I remember, you screw it into your roll bar. When the top was down the rollbar just swiveled down and laid against the bar/back. What I never found out was whether or not it got in the way of the rear seats or backspace when collapsed.

*edit* I don't think the kit had a support bar above the doors. I think the pic just makes it look that way.

Looking at the whole Jeep a little more Im thinking its a Yj tub conversion. The rear flares are wrong. The Scramblers werent round but thats the only exception for the Cjs.

Yeah I was looking harder and dont see the Yj supports all the way back to the roll bar. Still seems like a interesting option for heavy rain.
