I installed a new fuel pump and it apparently didn't have the exact bolt spacing the original did. I had to drill out the bolt holes to get the bolts to go all the way through. With that said, one bolt went in fine the other was tight all the way in until it broke the aluminum housing. It is the front bolt, I am thinking of just putting on an electric fuel pump and gluing a blank over the hole. Does anyone know if that front fuel pump bolt goes into the housing?

Welcome to the board...

I can't answer your specific question other than to say I would think that it does.

Like you (now), I wish you would have backed off and got the correct fuel pump because you could have a mess on your hands. Not sure without pictures what you mean by broke / or "how" broke the cover is, but if anything got inside the case you might have a real problem.

If you are 100% sure nothing fell inside the case, then I suppose you could patch it somehow and block off the pump mount, but It might be best to treat that as a temporary solution until you can replace the cover.

Others may view it differently...

No pieces got in the engine only on the outside of the timing cover. I put a through bolt and washer on the outside.

I'm sorry for your mistake, but you really do need to fix this correctly. Besides. it's a great opportunity to switch out your cam and distributor gear for a nice matched set.

As far as a good time to change out the cam and distributor gear, I don't really have the time now as I need the Jeep this winter to plow snow. Also the present cam and distributor gear are fine. The only future modifications I want to do will be headers and intake manifold and 4 barrel carburetor but that is a ways away. I just need to get it running through the winter.

Thanks for the replies.
