carb problem?

i just bought a 1975 CJ5 with an inline 6 it when i first start it idles well then when i rev it up it spits and sputters with brownish/black smoke and fouls the plugs daily is this from the carb being to rich

Could be. Could also be timing, weak spark, etc.

Additionally... Is your choke set and operating properly? Is the choke butterfly sticking? Are you letting it warm up (much longer than modern cars) before hitting the road?

I let it warm up I have replaced plugs,wires,distributer cap
It starts and idols fine then when I give it gas it goes from smooth then about
Mid-range On it starts stumbling and within 10 miles or so the plugs are coated black

If you have a stock carb replace it with a weber.
