carb problems i think

hey all i have a problem getting my stock AMC 304 with theford style carb to run right. to idle i had to set the auto choke all the way to richto where the choke is almost closed. it idels fine like this but it stalls out unless i give it alot of gas. once its moveing 1st and 2nd do fine but 3rd is useless it will just start sputtering and lose all power.
any ideas whould be great its probly a simple fix but im just to close to the situation...

hmm ok great ill check for vac leaks, i run some SEA FOAM through it yesterday and i got it to wear i could open it up a bit more so maybe it just needs a good soaking"crosses fingers"
