Can anyone tell me What kind of carb this is? I just bolted it on to the remanufactured motor it starts but Idles HIgh even when it warms up and it's blowing drops of gas and white smoke out the tail pipe?

looks like the Carter BBD carb. White smoke is water if it was gas it would be black.

I dig what you are saying but I get BLACK liquid droplets out of the tail pipe and WHITE smoke which I think indicates rich fuel/ air mix.
I havent messed with ANY carbs in about 20 years so any advice is helpful

Have you tried leaning it out by adjusting the idle mixture screws in?

It was getting dark so I stopped for the night I'll give that a try in the morning.
The PO told me it was a new remanufactured carb when I bought the jeep but he also said he THOUGHT the float was set wrong..... Just about everything the guy told me was inacurate So I dont want to tear this carb aprt until I try everything I can I was thinking like you adjust the idle but where do you think the gas (I THINK ) out of the tailpipe is coming from. Im pretty sure its not water (no catalytic converter) and it smells like gasoline

I would start by turning the two idle mixture screws in until it starts idling rough then back them back out just enough to smooth out the idle. Then see what you have and go from there. I'm still not sure its gas you are getting out the tailpipe. It could just be condensation.

Thanks for the tip but I dont think its a head gasket its running well and the motor was factory assembled checked the torque while installing too ... stranger things have happened though. Its an Idle issue, I think more than likely in the carb. I hate to say it but I think I have to tear the damn thing apart :(

This may sound stupid but take your finger and check the liquid coming out of the tail pipe and smell it to see if its gas, I would think if it was that rich it would run pretty rough. How long has it been since it was run last? It could be condensation and needs to be run to get rid of it. How long have you run it to warm it up? If it is a carter bbd and you are getting drips of gas out of the venturis they may be clogged.:) If it's a carter bbd I have this carb and could help if I can find the files I have on setting up the bbd and cleaning the venturis.:)

Water droplets are a normal occurrence in cold exhaust systems. Half the product of combustion is water vapor. This usually goes away when the exhaust system gets hot since it is too warm for the water vapor to condense. It it is running really rich, then the exhaust system won't warm up as well due to lower combustion temps.

What is the ambient temperature when it is blowing white smoke? Will it leave black spots from the stuff being blown out the exhaust?

The best measure of idling rich is to sniff the exhaust. If your eyes start watering after the sniff, it is really rich.

What does the sticker on the carb say I can't read it in the picture? I like your air cleaner, did it come with the jeep or did u buy it?

The air cleaner is a POS i bought from Pep Boys just something to keep the dirt outta the carb. The exhaust does smell a little rich but I think it was water coming out of the tail pipe.
Mtnwhlr i did just that(lean it out) no affect until it died. WE are talking about the two screws with springs on them on base of the carb under the roll over check valve.
ALSO I have NO Power to the electric choke on the carb and I think I have a Vacuum leak on the riser under the carb

Yes those are the screws as you turn them in it should start idling rough but if you have a vac leak you will not be able to tune your carb. If you take some carb cleaner and with it running spray where you think you have a leak and if the idle changes it is leaking.

I forgot about that carb cleaner trick I'll have to try that in the morning if I can get it to start. As for the choke plate its about half way open even at 180+ degrees F
Some one asked me what the sticker said on the carb (there is no tag) I'll look at that too and let you all know What the heck is going on with this project as I progress
Thanks to everybody on this forum, Im glad I found it I just wish all you guys lived up the block from me :chug:

If the choke plate is still half closed at 180 D it sounds like your choke spring is set to tight. Do you have three screws holding the outer cover on, or is it rivited in place. If it has screws the po before could have messed with it and got it to tight were the vaccum pull off can't over come the spring tension. I would look at loosening the spring tentsion on the choke. If its a bbd I have a copy of the sheet that came with the rebuild kit when I rebuild mine that shows the adjustments. If I can find it I will post it.

If your choke plate is still half open at operating temp it sounds like your choke spring is set to tight. Do you have three screws holding the cover of the choke spring housing on, if so the po my have adjusted it to tight. I've got a copy of the adjustments on the bbd carb from when I rebuilt mine, if I can get it to load up that should help. If it is a bbd.View attachment 11637
