Need help on taking out glass from a bad frame. Then putting the glass in my windshield frame.
What's the best way to do both?

A how to video would be awesome!

There are a few posts on that subject. Mine was quite lengthy.
Basically you have to cut the old one out and then reinstall with a new seal in your replacement frame. As for the exact how-to and gotchas we would need to know the year. My write-up was for a 1979 CJ.

Getting the glass out of the bad frame is pretty simple. Box cutter / knife cut the old gasket from the outside until the glass is free.

Careful with the glass! I've broken more than I'd like to admit. Mostly from rushing too much. Be sure and trial fit the glass in the "new" frame without a gasket on it. I've seen many windshields that needed thinning around the edges to fit inside an opening they weren't originally installed in.

Use a new gasket when you're ready to install. There ought to be piles of windshield install videos on You Tube you could review. Do a search of the forums to see the threads already available on this site that'll help you out.

Good Luck!!

Yep. The glass is easy to break. We also had to cut away excess material in the repop window frame.
Also, not all gaskets are the same. I didn't like the ones Morris sold. I had better luck with one I purchased on eBay.

Most all CJ windshield glass is made in china, make sure you size match it with the original one. The local shop where I purchased my glass had to cut it down to match the original one. Once cut to the correct size it made installation easy.

Fortunately, the last one I replaced came out in one piece. I was able to go down to a local glass shop and they used my old windshield as a template to cut a new one out of a sheet they had in the rack. WAY cheaper than ordering one from a Jeep supplier (that'll probably have to be modified to fit anyway).

I've never ordered a flat windshield from a retail source (VW Beetles, too). I either take the old one or a cardboard template for the local glass shop to pattern a new one from. The last Jeep windshield cost me $50 and they even zipped it in the frame for me (had the broken one still in the CJ when I drove it to the glass shop).

I have done the same deal and used liquid dish soap instead of olive oil.
Does help to have an extra set of hands at the ready.
