Hello again. CravinaJeep here looking for more info.
Some one told me the other day that Pre 78 CJ7 's came with solid axles.

Any opinions on Pro's or Con's here would be appreciated.

Can any one point me in a direction to verify this. I am still learning how to research this type of info on the web?

I think you mean pre 78 has the Dana 44 and after that they came with the AMC20 which had 2 piece axles. I'm not 100% sure that's the year but it sounds about right.
The 44 is a better axle than a 20, but IMO with 1 piece axles in the 20 theres not that much difference. In 86 they used some 44's also.
The other thing would be if you want WideTrak or NarrowTrak axles which changed in I think 82.
somebody correct me if i'm off on the years :chug:

Ok could be wrong again but.... didn't some early 44's come with 2 piece floating axles?

Yes, the 2 piece rear 44 ran from 54-mid 70 1/2 (CJ5 ).

The solid rear 44 ran from 70 1/2 - 75 (CJ5 ). in late 86 as well (CJ7 ).

Also, the rear AMC20 ran from 76-86 3/4. (76-83 CJ5 / 76-86 3/4 CJ7 )
