Finally got the CJ back from the auto body dudes and now im installing my DUI.

the old is removed, the DUI is installed into its resting place...now for the wires...

i have a red wire and an orange wire coming out of the wiring harness and into the BATT connector of the old coil (i think its called the coil) and a green wire coming out and going into the TACH connector...even though i dont have a tach.

the instructions on the DUI say to run a 12g wire from BATT on the DUI to the ignition switch. where is the ignition switch? lol also...what do i do with those 3 wires i mentioned earlier?

Hmm not sure about their directions. I wire HEI ignitions through a relay. Its very simple and give a good clean solid 12v to the dizzy.

All you need to do is find the hot wire that goes to the ignition module and use that to supply the relay on circuit. Then run a 12ga wire from the battery to the relay then out to the distributor. the last thing to do is wire up a ground. All the rest of your ignition system wires and be separated and tossed.
Full Power to HEI

ignition module sits next to the starter solenoid right?

it says to locate the ignition switch...i cant seem to find that and my service manual makes no mention of it.....do they mean the solenoid?

i know im almost there lol....1 wire to go...just need to find where to jam it. too bad my battery died somehow in the process, so now i cant even figure out if i get the 1 wire in the right spot till thats charged back up.

There are two red wires going into/out your computer module. One carries a full 12 volts (14 wire) and the other is resistored down to 8 or so. I initially went directly from the 12v ignition wire to the distributor, but had some cut-out problems. The best way to set these up is to use this wire to trip a relay and get the full voltage from the hot side of the starter solenoid. There are a number of posts here which have the wiring diagram. You can get a relay from any parts store. I mounted mine on the firewall.

what do i search for to find these diagrams? dui and d.u.i returns nothing and i dotn feel like plugging in random words and searching random threads. thanks for your help tho

If you look under my relpy.. Post #2 to your question I put a link to a guy that shows how to wire the Relay for a HEI.

Since you are getting rid of you ignition control module (located under your Coolant tank) you can use the power lead that goes to that. theres one plug that has 4 wires and one that has 2 (maybe 3). The one that has 2 or 3 wires will have an ignition hot 12v going to it, should be red with a white tracer and a 10 ga wire. you can use that to run your relay or your HEI direct. I would use the relay.

Ignition hot goes to #86
Ground goes to # 85
Power from your battery goes to #30
Power to your HEI comes from #87

Or

Heres a diagram from Jeephammer using the coil Hot to run the relay.. Ive done both.

If your still having an issue figuring it out you may want to find some one close to install it. Not being mean but they are straight forward and Id hate to see you mess up your jeep hooking it up wrong.

so i hooked up the DUI wire finally...i bypassed the relay temporarily just to make sure its right...i have the ignition wire hooked up to BATT on the dist....starter turns over but no fire. any ideas? i already checked the ignition wire to make sure its working.

Check to make sure youre getting 12 volts to the Distributor. If your getting 12 volts then you need to check your firing order and timing. Make sure you have a rotor installed in the cap. You can also run a temporary wire right from the positive side f the battery to the Batt side of the distributor and try starting it. If it start then your firing order is good and the distributor is set right. If it wont start then you have your distributor set out of wack and need to check the timing and firing order.

its the timing. ive got it started but just need to adjust it...im done with it for the night tho...will fine tune tomorrow.

looking back at it now it should of been an easy install lol too bad the instructions didnt address everything and this was actually the first time i have ever maintenanced a distributor.

live and learn.

thanks for the help
