Dana 20 transfer case shift fix (4h 2h n 2l 4l)

Would this typically fix my problem of not locking in the front when shifting into 4 low? Everything works OK in 4 hi and 2 hi.

From what I have researched so far my 72 CJ5 has a Dana 20 Transfer Case with sloppy linkage allowing me to shift into a 2L posiition. Is this an easy fix?
It's not the external linkage that allows that, but a detent and pill on the shift rods.
Yours may broken or removed.
That said this is something many do when installing twin sticks to get complete control.

So school me here guys, as I'm not familiar with the Dana 20 Transfer Case . Does it already have a shift position for 2L, unlike the 300?

There is no 2WD Low by design. Dana put a ramp on the rear shift shaft detent notch to make 4WDL smooth when going into that position. Coming out is different in that the front shift shaft must come out first to a regular detented position and that is what appears to be 2WDL. Since it is not held into position by an interlock or detent, it is free to move to neutral.

Pa Renegade - No not really. Sloppy linkage can sometimes make it possible to find 2 wheel low. Twin sticks deffinately make 2 low easy. One stick controlls the front and one controls the rear. If the Transfer Case is intact it is impossible to have a front high/rear low situation or the other way around. To operate you need to put the rear in either high or low, then the front will only engage in that position, neutral is always available. If the "pills" have been removed from the Transfer Case most any combination can be used .... rear high, rear low, 4 wheel drive in high or low, front wheel drive in high or low only, and yes the porential disaster of front low/ rear high or front high/ rear low.

My 4 wheeling doesn't require that many variables so my Transfer Case is unmolested with a twin stick set up.
