I have an 85 CJ7 with an automatic Transmission . I've been refurbishing it to pull behind a small RV. When I was under it last night with the Transfer Case in neutral I couldn't feel any resistance on the top output shaft. I have been under the impression I could pull it with all 4 wheels on the ground and the Transfer Case in neutral but I'm now concerned no gears are turning and the top output shaft bearing won't receive any gear oil. I know CJ's were towed by RV's with all 4 on the ground and the driveshafts hooked up, but does it have to be standard in neutral or will the top output shaft receive lubrication with the Transfer Case in neutral?

If you tow your jeep with the TCase in neutral the rear output shaft will spin in the TCase without oil. Not good. To get oil to circulate throughout the TCase you need to lock your front hubs. Or if you remove your rear driveshaft and unlock your hubs then there won't be any moving parts in the TCase.
