Dana 300 shifter after aw4 swap

I'm getting ready to put in a 4.0 and aw4 in front of my Dana 300 . With the aw 4 being longer than the TF999 that came in it, is there a way to modify the shifter so it fits in the stock location instead of cutting up the floor?

I have seen twin sticks with adjustable locations. Making another cover out of sheet metal with a different shifter location hole is another possibility.

PLEASE let us know how this turns out. I want to do the same thing to one of my Jeeps. It has a 4.6 stroker with MPFI and a T-5 now. I have the AW4 and a nice CJ auto tilt column. I'm interested in your 4th position on the Transmission (Overdrive ) vs the 3 on the column.....unless your using the XJ floor shifter.

I too want the stock t case shifter in the stock location with the stock boot.
My idea was to extend the pivot point with a heavy bracket and extend the two rods at the pin holes. A spacer and long bolt for the guide wedge will put it out in the stock location.....basically extend all the points needed.

I have a 4.o in my CJ7 with T-5 and Dana 300 .
A few month ago i got a xj and started to like the aw4 and now I think about getting a aw4 also for the cj. What about the driveshaft? I have a 3" lift and 33tires, will that still work, or can i get trouble with the short driveshaft.
What are your experiences. Thanks

Hopefully, you can find a driveshaft shop in your area. Who can shorten and rebalance it it. This might require a constant velocity u-joint and increasing the pinion angle. I would advise here having the spring pads rewelded to the correct pinion angle to match the new driveshaft angle and avoid having to use shims.

I already use a double cardan (CV) drive shaft. Don't you think to shorten this should work? Without rewelding.
And I am lucky 5 miles away next village, we have a special shop they rebuild truck driveshafts, all day long.
When ever I visit this guys they smile and say, small thing you can carry it by yourself.
We need a forklift .

If the aw4 is a longer Transmission than the T-5 , it will change the angle where the pinion gear meets the driveshaft. This could require you to change the pinion angle as the driveshaft and pinion angles should be the same with a cv style u-joint at the Dana 300 . I would suggest installing that aw4 and check for any excessive driveshaft vibration and u-joint wear. On my CJ w/cv u-joint, the driveshaft angle is a bit more than the pinion angle, but has held up fine for many years. Good luck with the Transmission swap.
