dana 44 1970, can i upgrade the brakes?

just tore down my Dana 44 rear to put in a posi carrier and rebuild brakes. can i put modern style shoe retainers and self adj hardware instead of the original?
ps i have worked on cars since 1976 and i have never seen this type of brake hardware.

does anybody know where to buy a stock or aftermarket brake hardware kit???

If your brakes have the automatic rod type adjusting rods, no source new that I know of.
Have you considered replacing 10" brakes with Bendix 11" drum brakes?
Easy bolt on, more modern cable self adjusters.
