different intake and exhaust

I have a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l in my 79 cj that has the intake and the exhaust together... I am wanting to put a header on but with my intake having to bolt to the exhaust that wouldnt work...my question is can i put on a later intake that doesnt have to be together with the exhaust so i can run a header? by the way it has to be the 2 bbl intake as i have the howell fuel injection kit.

An aluminum intake from an 80s AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l will do the job for you. You will want to run the heater hoses to include the intake manifold but it will bolt right on. The EGR valve can be capped or have a bung welded into the header.
