Ok, buying new front rotors and the guy at advance told me to be sure and have them turned to remove the film from them that is sprayed on them before they are boxed. I have never heard of this has anyone else??

Is he full of bull? I have always just cleaned them with brake cleaner and put them on with new pads and everything was fine.

He is full of Bull! Just clean with brake cleaner and put them on like you always have.

I almost always have the rotors or drums slightly dusted to check for warpage, not to remove any coatings - that is what break clean is for (as was stated).
The reason I have them dusted is that while they a not supposed to need any turning, many are warped because they were improperly stored at a warehouse or the store. I got tired of pulling new brakes apart to fix them. My auto parts store always does this for free.

New drums that needed turning. -->> http://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/f19/new-brake-drums-9885/

I think they like to sell new rotors! Maybe with cheap China rotors, they might need it. I always put a dial indicator on after installing. I have never had one that didn't run true.

So BS!

I work at Orielly and just took my trainingtest on rotors last night. It said the coating on new rotors is a corrosin prevenative. It said nothing about turning them before installation.

Nascar yes.

Jeep no.

How about when you buy a new car? should you have them turn the rotors to make sure they are true?

My 2cents;)
