driver seat mount

I purshased new Smittybuilt seats for my 1979 CJ7 . After removing and replacing the driver seat mount hardware I can't remember how the cross bracket fastens. The cross piece allows both side slide rails to work in unison. I sure need a shop manual. Can anyone help?

You must have the non-forward tilt seat brackets, that cross piece is to help the seat from side to side sway of course. It is held down by the bolt in the rear at the body nearest the center of the vehicle to the left side seat mount bolt. Is that description clear as mud?

Thank you Torxhead. I copy. Since your handle is torxhead, I am also replacing the OEM seatbelts. I was able to remove all of the 4 torx screws except the one closest to the driver's door. I shattered the Harbor Frieght torx socket and I have stripped the torx center on the screw. Any suggestion?

If you can, weld the shattered torx head to the top of the screw - then you can trash both of them when it's out.

If you don't have a welder handy, go to a shop, or see if you can grab the head of the bolt with vise grips. Another possibility would be to drill off the head with a drill larger than the bolt dia., then use a smaller left handed drill to remove the stud, or push it thru with a right handed drill.

Thank you for the idea. I don't have a welder and the torx bit was the part that shattered (you gotta love China). Your idea gave me a way to fix this. I even sprayed PB Blaster before I tried to loosen them. Harbor Freight tools have a life time warranty. I will get a replacement and weld that one to the torx head. Thanks again.

I think I will try the right handed drill method, although the roll bar is a little bit in the way.

recap: Drilling did not work for me. Even with brand new drill bits the Torx bolts were impenetrable harden steel. I drove my CJ7 to a welding shop and asked them to weld a nut to the Torx screw head. $20 later I have new seat belts that are way better than the OEM.
