Educate me on windshield frames

Have a buddy with a 74 CJ5 that needs a windshield frame.

Being a YJ guy I am not familar with the interchangeability of the WS frames. I do recall that somewhere in the 70`s the CJ7 came out.

Have found a couple of 76 model year frames. Are they the same or are we looking at CJ7 vs CJ5 here ?

The frames are the same from 72 ~ 75, above 75 they changed the top (bowed instead of flat (some mounting changed)). You can use any year frame, just need to be sure your top is correct for the year.

Did not even think about the bow vs non-bow. Was focusing on the width and mounting.

Perhaps we could call it crowned vs non crowned ?

Thanks for starting this thread. I knew the later ones don't have a channel built in for the top and the earlier ones do...other than that they are interchangeable? I'm topless right now (no pun intended! ) so I could either go with a later one and install the channel for the top (I think they are cheaper) or try to find an earlier one.
