This has been bothering me:View attachment 12317
What is supposed to hold this pin in place? This is functional and covered by the shift boot, but...... I'm sure there is a better way.

This won't be too expensive Dear! That's what I keep saying. Over and over again.

What pin are you talking about?

The one that is held in place by the hose clamp. Holds the gear shift to the tranny I'm guessing

If you can't see the picture, I can try and PM it to you.

There is no pin that holds the shifter on it is held in place by the piece on top of the Transmission that goes around the shifter.

Thanks mtnwhlr. That's what I was thinking too, just wondering what purpose the hose clamp was serving. I might take it off later when reassembling and see what happens.

#32 is what holds the shifter in the Transmission

is that hose clamp holding #39 (pin) in? if so yes you do need that pin there. somone probably put the wrong pin in. it holds the colar in that holds the shifter in. #32

somone rigged it up. mine has no hose clamp. the pin is pressed in

Thanks. I will investigate further when i get back up there again. Working on rear axle now. Again, thanks for the input!

This housing cap goes over that pin
housing-cap-8134667-m_5628.jpg

The collar of this cap keeps the pin from coming out.

Clean it up and use some high strength LocTite.

Got these coming. Should be able to remove the hose clamp and also prevent water from entering the top of the Transmission !:chug:

Thanks for the help!

Got it done yesterday.:chug:

Looks WAY more functional! The Metal part actually connects to the pins and the rubber part is what holds the pins in and keeps water out. Nice tight fit:D

Nice :D

I learn something every day.

Me too! I went to order the part you had suggested because I could see it on the diagram. Then, I got to looking at the picture again, then back to the parts diagram and it appeared somthing was missing.... Google Images to the rescue!!!!

Back to the parts diagram, and bingo. 17 or 18 bucks later and wait on FEDEX. Took all of 45 seconds to get these changed/installed. I thought there might have been something missing to repel water, that was the secondary function of the rubber boot I guess!

Thanks to all who provided assistance with this :notworthy:. I will be back again soon with another question...don't worry!!!!!

Life is full of small victories, thats what keeps us wanting to be challenged I reckon:rolleyes:.
