I am getting ready to do a rebuild of my 85 CJ7 . The first thing I want to do is get the frame done. I would like to get it sand blasted and coated with something. Powder coating is kinda pricey for me. I am really considering a KBS coating. KBS seems like they really have their chit together. I haven't heard many negative things about them. I was thinking of coating everything on the underbody. Any Suggestions? Thanks.

There are many product you can use and most all work if you prep the frame correctly. What I use is Rust Encapsulator an eastwood product it works for me and has for many years, not saying it's the best but it hasn't failed me yet.

I've never heard of KBS coating so I can't comment on it. I agree with posi, the prep is important for any coatings longevity. I myself went with POR-15 on my frame and many of the parts and pieces of the Jeep.
Are you using a new frame or a used one?

I used a product from Wurth... It was called RustGuard I believe... It is a badass product. My buddy has a shop, and one day the wurth distributor came by. He took a hammer with a split wooden handle, soaked a paper towl in this stuff, and wrapped it around the split handle. It became hard as a rock, and damn near indestuctible.

I coated the whole frame with it, and even sprayed it inside where I could. The negative aspect about it, is that it is affected by UV. So I topcoated it with engine black for extra protection.

I've also heard of a product called Por5 or something.. But never used it personally.
EDIT: Just noticed that PaRenegade mentioned Por15... my bad.

I’ve coated both non-sand blasted and sand blasted frames with Rust Encapsulator as it doesn’t need a top coat being UV protected.

If you want to go with just a top coat ceramic chassis black is a good option.
