So I absolutely hate the diamond plate that is on my front dash...I was starting to take it off, got a couple of screws out and pulled the plate back a little bit to see that THANK GOD it was not welded on but super sticky stuff in between....Anyways anyone have any experience with this depending on the plate behind the diamond how hard is it to clean it up and paint it back to yellow.....I love showing my craftsmanship but should I just say to the hell with it and buy a new dash plate from e-bay?

This is a classic example of, “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should”! I would try acetone to remove the mastic.

So meaning just because I can pull the plate back I shouldn't lol.....I am probably going to attempt doing this next weekend and will give acetone a try sucks because theres so much to actually take off just to get that diamond plate off....oh well I love being somewhat destructive only till it starts costing me more money, or I ought to say my wife more money. :D

Depending on what type of "stickey stuff", I would use a heat gun. Not as messy , and, shouldn't take much to get it hot enought to loosen

C'mon, diamond plate is cooler than cool.

and also hell to clean up....idk just something about the old cj look that I like I love the old cleaned up dash on them yes kind of plain but ha idk theres just something to be said about them and I just

I have a dash plate I'll sell ya' for 20.00 plus the shipping. It will need sandblasting and has a cut out for a DIN mounted radio. If you're interested I can send picts.

If those don't work try some WD-40. It'll remove undercoating and leave the paint below unharmed.
