Hello,

I am sure this has been asked before. I am trying to replace my dana 27 with a Dana 44 with disc brakes. I would like to know what kind of Dana 44 's should I look for, to cut and narrow to fit my CJ3b . I will also like to change out the 4.27 gears at the same time. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I see that you have a 4.3 in that thing, would you consider a Dana 30 with aftermarket axles? as it would be easier to adapt.

WELCOME :chug:
A Dana 30 would serve you well here. ;)

74-79 Wagon or Cherokee "sport" (Chief has WT axles) would work.

A 78 Waggy narrowed 4" on mine. Pretty easy but the cheap part is the used axle. Might as well rebuild with bearings seals maybe disks and pads. athe the locker and gears. . .somewhere around $1500 all said and done. Oh forgot about the hardened axles and tie rod ends.

I'd do it again. :D

This was my choice as they are set up for SUA from the factory. They need to be cut down to size but the C's don't need to be turned.
They do come with 6 lugs though so you need to change them to 5X5.5 (ford & chevy parts), the steering also needs some mods.

Chevy. Spindles

Ford rotor/ hubs

Only need to shorten. Passenger side and respline.

I'll make you a deal on a 1977 Dana 30 . Complete except for the hubs and pinion yoke. this is left over from the 6 bolt hub conversion. its 4.10. I'm not sure if the spring pads are the same. I was going to CL it for $50. You would need to come out to the OP though. I'm near the Hood Canal Bridge.

Just a note on the spindles. I used 1 Chevy spindle a friend gave me and used the stock CJ spindle on the other side. I simple had the CJ spindle machined down for $10.
