Putting an electric fuel pump on frame rail of a 79 CJ5 , just after the sending unit, can I also put the factory fuel filter just after the pump so I only have to run 1 fuel line from the rear axle to the engine compartment. Example- fuel float assy, 16" fuel hose, electric pump, 6" fuel hose, factory fuel filter attached to frame, outlet from filter run up to engine compartment, other outlet (return to float assy) back to tank. This config. is to keep from running 2 fuel lines all the way up the frame rail. By the way, this is a Throttle Down custom frame with no body on it yet. All in all iI guess what I am asking, does it matter where fuel filter goes? Thanks

In my opinion, it should be ok. The biggest consideration for placement in my estimation, is that I would want the filter, pump, float, etc., in a secure location, out of the way, yet still in a place that I can get to it, with a minimum of effort, due to the fact I am very lazy...:D

Not that you have said you are going to do this, but the only real consideration I can think of concerning the fuel filter, would be if you decided to put it on the supply side of the fuel pump, because while it doesn't matter to most filters, some filters will have issues, if the motive flow of the fuel through it comes from suction rather than pressure.
