Fuel pump

Hello, my 76 CJ5 (AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l /6) has a fuel pump issue. The Previous owner put a electric fuel pump on. the pump stopped working last week. I'm thinking about putting the original mechanical back on. What are the advantages and disadvantages? Also, do I need the return fuel line? It currently doen't have one. Thanks for any help.

A mechanical pump should work just fine. the carter generally does have a bypass line and I think I would go out of my way to have one. is any of the steel line for the bypass still in place??
