alright guys I just acquired a 1981 CJ7 . It has the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l inline 6. All the headlights, parking lights, blinkers, flashers work great. But the fuel quantity, temp, voltage, and oil pressure gauges don't work. The wiring diagram looks simple enough but I haven't tore into it. Before I do are there any simple fixes or suggestions. Surely all the fuses can't be blown.

johnmoers, my '80 CJ7 has working oil press & volts, but the temp & fuel gages are Tango Uniform. I've been thru them once, no dice.

You'll see a lot of remarks about poor grounding. Just be sure you don't have that as an issue.

If you'll either 'Net search "John Shrenk Gauges" or grab this link

More on CJ Gauges - Jeep-CJ Documents and Manuals

you'll have a good starting place.

I've had to wait while a dirty carb got rebuilt. Turns out the last guy to overhaul the MC-2100 put a too-long screw into one of the small covers, and dogged it down gorilla-tight. Punched a hole in the aluminum to the inside and left aluminum shards moving all around. Every time I hit a serious bump the carb tuning took on new characteristics.

Luck with it.

gauges are pretty "easy".. Kinda. They should have 3 wires except the volt meter.

1 wire is a ground wire
1 wire is an igniton wire
1 sender wire.

Since none of them work I would look at my fuses first. I cant remember if theres a seperate gauge fuse or if its tied into some thing else.

Grounds are a huge issue for jeeps. Like already mention look up John Strenks site and read till you go blind.

Once you gothrough hi site you should be able to figure out whats what then start checking your "ignition wire" for power with the key on. then chek for continuity of your grounds, LAst but not least check your resistance of your senders. Buy a decent volt meter.
