Ok - I have the supply line all ready to go, and now it's time for the return line. After weaving the supply line along the left frame rail, dodging brake lines, pro portioning valve, etc., is there some etiquette rule that I would trample if I ran the return down the right frame rail? There's a LOT more room to play with...... In my head, as long as it makes it back to the tank I'm good......... Opinions?

I say as long as it makes it back to the tank that is all that matters. You just don't want it getting hot along the way.

Thank you for the validation..... Sometimes my logic runs a little wide LOL. I didn't mention this will on a AMC 304 , and the return outlet on the filter will already be pointing towards the passenger side - and being lazy I'd like to minimize the number of bends in the line..... I'm not enjoying that part. And running it how it looks in my head keeps it well away from the exhaust.....

My line actually ran just opposite of what you are doing. The main line to the engine ran down the right side to the fuel pump. The return line and the vent line ran down the left side of the frame. The Evaporation Canister is located on the left side near the firewall. Doubt that it matters though.

I ran my supply line left side since my fuel pump is also left side. I have a canister behind the rear wheel left side.

The return outlet on the fuel filter should be at the straight up or the twelve o'clock position. I would think the best location to install a fuel return line would be on the inside of the frame rail as high up as you can reasonably install it.

Yes, and pointing pointing left if facing the engine.

I actually cheat on the position of the return line. You can find return line fuel filters with the return line designed with a standing filter. Yep, I relocated my filter to a position down by the pump with the filter in a vertical position and the return line sticking out at 90* or horizontal. Doing this seemed logical at the time. Now I know the return was designed to help prevent vapor lock. Haven't had a problem with vapor lock in it's current configuration.

Well, I already started bending the return, so I'm just gonna stick the filter between the carb and Dist. But that's an interesting option..... Would've looked a lot cleaner
