The fuel tank is shot. 2 questions
Has anyone tried the poly tanks and what is your opinion.
Where is the best place to buy parts for my year jeep 74.

I have a poly tank in my 74 I like the idea of not having a steel tank. One you dont have to worrie about it rusting away. Second if i come off a rock and bend in my skid for my tank its no big deal to pull it off bend it back and i dont lose any capacity because it pops back out. Mine came from Jc whitneys

I agree. Plastic is the way to go. :chug:

I've heard (actually heard - not on the interwebs) that the poly tanks "smell" - like, if you leave the Jeep in the garage, it'll smell like gas. Don't know why/how. Myth? BS?

My jeep was in our shop for 5 months when i was building it. Was full of fuel and never smelled like gas.

Never had that issue either. If it smells like gas, there is a leak somewhere at the filler or return lines.

Thanks for the replys. Will oder the poly tank. Get the fuel system cleaned up and go from there.

I run a poly tank and like it. I did have gas smell when it would sit in the garage. I ended up changing the charcoal canister. That fixed the smell.

A vote for metal especially if your going with an under seat tank (unlike your 74). Most all poly tanks leak out the neck on inclines when full. The cap never seals tight at least not on my 2a which came with a poly tank when I bought it.

Ive never had any problems with my polly tank in my 74 never has leaked at the leck. or where the fuel sending unit sits in the tank.

That's good to hear, if you did have an under the seat fuel tank and drove on inclines it would leak out the filler neck.

Ya i just have a tank in the back so ya i cant really say anything about the under seat one.
