Help, I haven't rebuilt a motor in 20 years and all of the places I ordered parts from, (via telephone) are gone or don't sell I6 parts for anything older than a 4.0.
I have my 85 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l at the machinist and it needs a full build which includes an .040 punch out due to cylinder taper. I don't want cheap parts as this Jeep will be given to my oldest when she gets her license next year and when she decides that she doesn't want it anymore I'll get it back.
What companies do this now. A random google search gives a million returns but I would rather go with a company that Jeep people endorse.Send me links please.
Ideally I'm looking for the highest quality at the best prices.
Thanks!!!!!

Speed-pro, melling,Fel-pro, crane, clevite all make parts for these engines still. The machine shop should be able to get you a good price on quality master rebuild set... At least mine does ..especially when they are doing the machine work too. Have you tried Summit racing or Jegs ? They can get about anything that made.

Talk to the folks who are doing your machine work, and see who they use.

Your original AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l was built by the lowest bidder...and it lasted how long?
Unless you're building for HP and/or speed, it won't really matter.
The machining will make more of a difference than the standard everyday components that will go into it.
