Gas tank right below seat?

My gas tank is right underneath my seat. I have a straight custom job, a chevy blazer back bench is my front bench and it's connected to the sides of the jeep. Pictures after work... If you tilt the seat forward right below it is the top of the tank, is this normal? If I were to take the bench out and put in normal front seats where the heck would they go? could someone send me a pic of there CJ5 drivers side set up so I can get some ideas of what I'm dealing with?

The tank under the seat is normal, my buddies '69 had it there.
Doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy sitting on a gas tank but it
the norm.

Unless someone can get to it sooner, I will snap a pic of mine and post it up tonight. I did cut my seat brackets down to sit lower, as I have aftermarket seats as well. But the bracket is the same. It connects to the body at the door sill, goes over the tank and turns down between the seats to connect at the floor. The rear of the bracket connects to the tub right behind the tank with two more brackets. Those bolts are a mother to get to with my seats and I ended up welding the bolts to the bracket.

yep, they started changing the tanks in 68 but it was not until 70 they all were in the rear, actually you have a stronger frame as they removed a few of the angle braces to get it under the seat, tell you what, you can get a new bigger plastic tank and it is no problem. Or, go to "got propane" order thier kit and do a propane injection and run the propane tanks in the rear

I've actually got a gas cap in the back also, like one used to be there, but it's just a key lock cap and tube. As far as the gas goes I'm good with the position, I don't mind the bench seat at this moment in time, baby on the way two kids already, bench in the front seats three, other two in the back. But I may want to put normal seats in the front down the road, but then again I may never change this thing, just improve it and get another one down the road anyways. Only down side is they literarlly bolted a cross beam across the front of the jeep connecting on the door wells then put the hinge of the blazer seat on that so I can lift the seat forward, but cannot get the passenger storage area open without removing the seat, which has a nice shiny cross style tire iron in it. Thinking of how to change the storage area into a half door opening behind the bench to put small items in, like my road side kit as I roll toppless and no doors right now.

My 3B obviously has the tank under the seat and never gives me any concern except when I'm trying to figure out how much fuel I have cuse the guage is bad..Use a flashlight fool, no matches...use a flashlight fool, no matches...use a flashlight fool, no matches...do you get my point?

Sas, in my 67 I figure if I can still hear it sloshing, I have gas, it is when you hear it slapping you are getting low
I carry 10 gallons on the back all the time in that one, I know that little tank under the seat does not hold much
My wife wants me to get 2 extra cans just for that jeep when we go to Baja for our annual jaunt this year, she wants to make sure we have gas. But then some of the places we go down there you strain the gas coming out of a rusted 55 gallon drum through a tee shirt and are thankful someone in the village had some to sell.

And Yes, 54, sitting on a bomb sure does make life fun.
