Not sure if everyone / anyone knows this, but for those of you (like me) with the QuadraTrac Transfer Case - I have some G R E A T news...

BJ's Offroad has found a US manufacturer (Cloyes I "think") to manufacture replacement QuadraTrac chains!!! These are NOT the stretchy Chinese chains, these are OEM quality chains.

Also, for those of you wanting a 4x2 kit, they are also selling MileMarker kits with or without MileMarker hubs.

In my opinion, there's not much reason to have a 4x2 kit if you know how to use your QuadraTrac , but to each their own...:chug:
It's now (again) possible to completely overhaul your QuadraTrac like NEW.

I would suggest buy'n 2 of these chains. It never hurts to have a spare one.
Are they available now?
LG

Yes, they are available...
They also sell new clutch cones! As I know made by Novak...

I recently rebuilt my Transfer Case . Put the Mile Marker Part Time kit in it. Also ordered a chain from BJ's. Chain came quickly. Here are some pictures:

Part time kit requires you to remove the rear output shaft, seal, bearing, retaining ring, and best to get the speedometer gear out of the way to put the new rear output shaft in

Follow my build link below to see how I get rid of the vacuum diaphragm and replace it wit a cable shifter.

PB-Did you compare the quality of the 2 chains side by side?
What was you opinion?

I may end up with one of the QuadraTrac Cjs . My last one got about 9 mpg. First thing I was going to do would be a part time kit. I'd be using it as a daily driver as well. Was just curious about the above statement.

With gas costs of today-I think it would be very easy to see WHY folks would want the 4X2 conversion. :dunno:

It was s out of tune 6cylider and I was shocked to say the least. The one I was was looking at had a 360 but sold last night. I have one other one on my radar but if it sells before Wednesday I'll be stuck cause everything else around me is busted or rusted or both.

Well it's true that the QuadraTrac fitted CJ's didn't get the fuel economy that others did, but anyone getting only 60-70% of (for the sake of conversation) a 15mpg standard average, has other contributors to their poor economy than the presence of a QuadraTrac (tuning, tires, gears, etc). If I remember correctly, this setup accounted for 2mpg less than other Jeeps at the time. I personally over around 15-17 with mine and a AMC 304 .

For me, the strength, flexibility, traction-when-you-need-it availability and in-the-seat control of the QuadraTrac is fantastic. NOT saying it's better than anyone else's case, just that it's definitely in the "good Transfer Case " conversation and I believe that the advantages outweigh a couple miles a gallon lost.

All I wanted to share was the renewed availability of these parts for those of us with QuadraTrac so I in retrospect shouldn't have commented on the 4x2 kits, but a lot of people use those because they don't know how to use a QuadraTrac correctly and just prefer to lock hubs in or out like everyone else. Many of those same people will climb into an AWD pickup or SUV and not give it a second thought when many of those function basically the same way a QuadraTrac does.

:agree: :notworthy:
Very well said. Facts, they can be very stubborn things to deal with.

So to jump into the fuel consumption thing (we pay here 1.3-1.5$ per litre)
my pure stock AMC 304 with AT and QT has 9.4 mpg (as said by the unit calculator) corresponding to 25 litres per 100 km...
If somebody asks me I always say it takes 8 l per 100 km, the rest is
my fun and hobby...
Otherwise I could buy a Prius :D:D

Start looking at ones in CA by me :D - then you'll be set for the Rubicon Trail ride :poke:

The two chains look identical in my opinion, but I'm no expert. Time will tell on how it wears.

As for the part time kit. I have two good QuadraTrac transfer cases and some additional parts. I wanted too try it out. Almost all of my 4 wheel drive vehicles I've owned were setup that way. 75 too 80% of my driving will be all street driving. If I don't like it I can change it. Plus we don't get snow down here. I explained this in my build. Probable would have replaced the cones and kept it full time 4wd if I lived somewher else.
